One thing at a time.
Have you ever been overwhelmed by lots of little things you need to get done, even if none of them are that big of a deal on their own? It’s not uncommon!
I’ve been thinking a lot about how to offer more realistic mindset work to clients, and I’ve realized that when I am most productive, most energetic, my best self - I tend to reiterate this mantra to myself: One thing at a time.
One task at a time and complete it before I get swept up by something else. One email at a time until I’ve responded to everyone I need to today. One cookie at a time so I don’t find myself eating an entire fresh-baked cookie sheet on my own. One rep at a time at the gym as I feel myself getting stronger. One bite at a time, nice and slowly, so I don’t overeat.
So why do we tend to think that our health journey needs to be ALL THINGS ALL THE TIME?!
It’s not how life works, and it’s not how most of us work best, either.
So the next time you start thinking you’re not doing enough, or you aren’t on point as you work towards new goals - just remember: One thing at a time.
We all grow one minute at a time. We lose weight one pound at a time. We burn one (or maybe a few) calories at a time. We build our best habits one at a time, until we master them.
If I can offer anything to you in this moment, it is this. Take a deep breath, and choose your one thing for now. Let the rest just follow!
